12:06 pm - August 11th
Today, we got took our time getting up as the weather was really hot. We got word the night before about that yucky stuff happening over in Europe and how it's now affecting travel by air. I hope it doesn't affect me!

anyway, we decided to go see a movie today...Step-Up. it was fairly good! I enjoyed the music alot!

then, after the movie, it was early evening, so we went down to the State Fair, which had just opened that day.

I got a Donkey ride, got to sit on a saddle all by myself, got to sit on a Bull's horns and watch some kids partipate in a tractor pull.

Then we got to see the SuperHeroes exhibit. There was a real life Superman walking around and we saw the ORIGINAL Lois Lane from the original Superman television show. She was really pretty!

AFter that, we went off to the furs/feather's exhibit and I got to see Baby Quail hatch and Baby Chicks hatch too! Man, those chicks are huge!

we left after that to go home. LOTS of walking but it was a good night, really cool, not sweaty much!

Bye for now!

12:06 pm - August 9-10th.
Hi gang:

My host went to work today, then took me to pick up her aunt at the local Airport. Finally picked up her aunt and away we went. We took a long drive down to Monterey, CA. There's an aquarium that she wanted to visit, so we went down the night before.

during the drive, we got lost, well, she got lost. Took the wrong exit. it's one exit on the other freeway and another exit on the one we took, so 30 minutes down the wrong exit we finally found how to get to where we needed.

we checked in and collapsed.

the next morning, we got up and moving and checked out of the hotel. then got lost driving to the aquarium. According to my host, we took an unplanned adventure. it was fun.

after parking on the street, we walked down to the entrance to the aquarium. We saw lots of fish, but also saw otters, jellyfish which really aren't fish at all! sharks, penquins, bat rays and a really cool kelp forrest! some person comes in and feeds the kelp twice a day and talks with us under water! way cool!

I think the sea turtles in the HUGE tank was the coolest, however getting pictures of it was rather difficult.

my host will post pictures as soon as her home computer is working correctly. something went wonky with her laptop.

anyway, we left after that and did a bit of shopping on the way back to the car. it was a beautifully clear day and just a bit of windy, but the bay was beautiful. We didn't get a chance to walk down to the beach, but we were all tired and just wanted to get home!

bye for now...

02:40 pm - I'm in California
I arrived in Carmichael, California on Thursday, the 3rd of August to my new host MG aka Donna. We haven't done much since she was recovering from an outpaitent surgical procedure. Her dad was here also and he took great care of MG. Mg was finally able to fend for herself on Friday, so her dad left on Saturday morning. We bummed around the house Saturday and Sunday, getting ready for a getaway on Wednesday night.

Thanks to Cheryl for shipping me to California!

More to come later!

03:23 pm - Still in Minnesota...
Hi everyone. Rick here. Currently I am still in Minnesota. Hutchinson, MN to be exact. My hostess underdog has been busy dealing with real life issues so she has not had much time to do things with me.

She did take me to her parent's camper in Eden Valley, MN.

01:51 pm - Rick in Minnesota
Here I am in St. Cloud, Minnesota!

What a time I've had. First I arrived, and with no dogs in sight I was able to sit back and relax. I arrived a few days before Easter and was surprised when Pam got me a pair of bunnie ears.

I never knew they made bunnie ears that would fit a minimoose. The surprises didn't stop there, the basket Pam and Craig got for me for Easter was huge! I could not possibly eat all that candy. Although I did try my hardest.

11:46 am - I'm a Wyoming Cow-moose-boy!
The weather has certainly improved since my last entry! Sunny and in the 50s, so no complaints here. My hosts continue to take me to muck out the horses in the morning, but I no longer complain because I kinda like it. The air is brisk, the horses are excited to be fed, and all in all, it's not half bad.

My hosts took me to Fort Caspar Museum to show me what life was like here in the 1800s. Unfortunately, all the log cabins were closed for the winter so I couldn't see in them. Considering the huge snowdrift still in front of one of the buildings (even though all the other snow is gone!) I'm mighty glad I didn't live here in the 1800s.

The part of the museum that is in the new building was open, so we walked through it, looking at rifles and uniforms and such. There was a large photo on the wall of Casper's downtown in 1920; I had myself photographed with it and then took a photograph from the same intersection today.

The weather was beautiful enough that my hosts really introduced me to their horses (yes, I see them in the morning, but they are a bit frisky for me to socialize with then!). I met Jim (Jimdandy) up close and personal --

-- and then I got to take a ride! I'm a real cowboy!

OK, OK. We really didn't move much. Mostly, Jim grazed and I sat on him. But it was awesome, although very hairy. (He was shedding.) Fortunately, we color coordinate nicely, so his hair didn't stand out too much on me.

After I rode, my hosts declared that I am truly a moose with the spirit of the west in him, and that I had earned the right to wear a cowboy hat. They bought me a very nice dress hat which can be used for the most formal occasions, if need be. Unfortunately, it is time for me to move on, so I took a picture with my new hat in front of their little house so that I will never forget my western adventures. Yippy ti yi yo git along little doggies!

09:11 am - Another week in Wyoming!
Another week has passed by, and I must say, I really wish for civilization! First, we had a blizzard. Then the bottom dropped out of the thermometer and the temperatures crashed. It got down to -32F one night...it was -27F when my hosts dragged me out of bed the next morning to help them muck out and feed the horses! Is that any way to treat a guest?! They weren't very sympathetic when I objected (very politely, I must add. I merely suggested that it might be helpful for me to stay behind and make their tea for them.) They said something about moose hailing from very cold regions and that I should be dealing with the weather easier than they were. I tried explaining that I was not a wild moose and that I wasn't used to harsh conditions. They told me to cowboy up and stop whinging.

On the other hand, I got to meet a few very distant relatives. They stopped in to the property to cadge some discarded hay the day after the blizzard. I guess all the restaurants were closed or something. The schools certainly were.

And I've gotten to meet some animals more my size here in my hosts' home. Turns out my hostess creates small animals for a living - to sell to collectors, I guess. I felt very comfortable with these new acquaintances, because I meet so few folks my own size. Well, I admit I was a bit chary with the lioness, but it all went well.

I hope this week they'll take me into town and show me some civilization! This rural life is all very well for some moose, but I'm used to the finer things in life.

09:32 am - Brrrr... Whyoming is cold!!
I arrived in Wyoming a couple of weeks ago. Whew! The trip wasn't so bad, but the arrival was a nightmare! No sooner had the new folks taken me out of my traveling package and were trying to take a picture than I was engulfed in some huge animal's mouth! I barely had time to take a breath - just daylight, than warm, mushy wet darkness!

It was horrible...brought back those nightmares from earlier in my trip. Fortunately, my new hosts had the sense to grab me out of the creature's mouth before any real damage was done to my beautiful bod. We won't dwell on the damage done to my tender psyche. Turns out the huge beasts loooove packages because squeaky toys arrive in them sometimes. Sheesh! Is is my fault I resemble a squeaky toy?

We haven't done too much so far that's been exciting. My hostess is getting ready for an art show and seems to work all of the time. They do drag me up at unholy hours of the morning to help muck out and feed their horses. The dawn sky can be very attractive, but not nearly as attractive as my bed, IMHO. Sometimes I long for civilization, I must say!

I'll add more later!

10:38 am - Boston... On to the Museum
From the visitors center we drove (insert photo here) to one of Jason's favorite local museums The Museum of Our National Heritage. The Museum is free (though donations are gladly accepted) and is run by the Masons (add picture here). Everyone remember your secret handshake. The museum has a permanent exhibit on the Battle of Lexington and colonial life.

09:58 am - Saturday in Lexington
At the end of last week, I made what will probably be the shortest leg of my trip. I found my way just a few miles down the road from [info]radegund_lj to Jason's [info]cephme apartment. Jason was very stressed about some stuff at work so I really did not get out until the weekend. On Saturday, Jason took me to Lexington , his hometown and the site of the first battle of the American Revolution. Unfortunately many of the monuments are not properly sized for minimoose so I had to do a little rock climbing before I could get a good look at the statue of Captain Parker.

05:59 pm - Happy New Year!
I've been enjoying my visit with [info]radegund_lj here in New England. One day this past week she took me to work with her on "The T," Boston's subway system. It wasn't as crowded as usual, being the week between Christmas and New Year's. I rode the Red Line from the Alewife station to Park Street; it mostly runs underground, but she took a picture of me when the train was on the bridge going over the Charles River and the light was good. Wheeee!

This past weekend I got to spend New Year's Eve with Radegund, her boyfriend [info]foobyte, and their friends in Rhode Island. We had a fun time playing a card game called Killer Bunnies (I watched, helped roll the dice, and advised Radegund on her moves). At midnight we watched the ball drop in Times Square and opened holiday crackers. Everyone seemed to have a good time, but whoo-boy were we tired when we got home.

When we woke up in the morning, we found that it had snowed overnight! It wasn't a big storm, but enough snow fell that we could go out and play in it. Radegund and Foobyte helped me build a snow moose (I loaned him my scarf) and a snow angel. That was fun.

Radegund says she wants to take me to a local science fiction convention in a couple of weeks and try to meet Keith R. A. DeCandido, author of the Serenity novelization. I'm a Browncoat so sign me up! After that I will check my email and decide which friend to go visit next.

09:37 pm - Arrived Safely in Massachusetts!
I got to surprise [info]radegund_lj! I was waiting for her when she got home from visiting family in Iowa. She's got plans to show me around town and have me meet other Browncoats, but tonight she had to get caught up on her grocery shopping. I went along to supervise. I've put a photo in my photo album just so my friends can see that I really am doing fine on my travels!

It's not quite as Christmasy looking up here in Massachusetts as I'd hoped, as the weather warmed up enough to melt off a lot of the snow before I arrived. Radegund says the snow looks pretty when it first falls, but after it's been shoveled and driven on for a bit, not so much!

11:18 am - First stop: Virginia Beach, Virginia!
Well, I got here just fine a couple of weeks ago and have been on a whirlwind adventure. NOT! I know my hosts (Hypercoma, Redfox42, and Loadshed) really do want me here. However, with the upcoming Christmas holiday preparations, they've been a bit too distracted to entertain me in the way I'm sure they'd like. Miss Hyper apologized profusely for not taking me to all the neat places she wanted to. She did tell me about the beach (with imported sand), Colonial Williamsburg (men in knickers! tee hee!), Mt. Trashmore (a park built on a garbage heap. Really), and lots of neat shops. Although I didn't get to see all these places, she did take me to The Cheesecake Factory along with HLGem and Redfox42 and introduced me to raspberry martinis, sour apple martinis, and MOJITOS! Wow! Those things go down way too easily. If anyone sees Bruce, tell him that beer is still my fave! But the combination of rum, lime, and mint is quite intoxicating :) Literally!

Well, it looks like I'm off to Watham, Mass. next. I understand it looks much more Christmasy that far north. I have visions of Norman Rockwell and maple trees. I'm really looking forward to it!

Oh, before I forget - Hyper sewed a pretty iridescent bead onto my scarf. I have bling!!! Maybe my future hosts will follow suit...? It's no big deal if they don't. I mean, who wants to look like Liberace?

Until next time,
Rick

P.S. Dogs' mouths are gross, wet, dark, and slimy. Please don't let me relive those few horrifying seconds :(

05:44 pm - Hello!
Hi! My name is Rick! I'm a Moose and I'm about to start on lots of adventures around the world.

I've recently been adopted by a moose called Bruce. He's very brave and very strong, and he looks out for me. He's also having lots of adventures, and has recently been travelling around the world with our human, [info]jenskijen. We're in Canada right now, and my human is going to be living in Vancouver for a long long time. I know that we'll have fun together, but I want to see the world. [info]jenskijen has given me permission to do some travelling of my own. I'm going to be staying with Browncoats (these are fans of the TV series "Firefly" and the movie "Serenity") who are really cool people! I've met lots of them in Arizona and at MyOrangeHat's PA Shindig, and I like them alot! I'm really looking forward to meeting more!

I'll be using this journal to keep my human up to date about all the exciting adventures I'm having. I won't actually be doing it... my host humans will. Since I can't actually type, [info]jenskijen is typing this for me... I'm dictating. As I travel, lots of other humans will be doing my typing for me to! I've sooo got it made! :D

I also have a photo album, which my host humans will be adding to for me. It's at http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/rick_minimoose/my_photos

So look out for the amazing adventures of Rick!

:D
